My Values
Family and Community
Family is at the center of my life, and community is the circle around it. I want my kids, and every kid in the 17th Legislative District, to grow up in a place where they can be safe, supported, and hopeful about their future. I believe we are at our best when we look out for each other and when our policies reflect the simple idea that we all do better when we all do better.
Integrity
Integrity is the value I come back to repeatedly. I strive to always tell the truth, keep my word, and own my mistakes, whether I am caring for a patient as a flight nurse, talking with athletes as a coach, or listening to constituents in a public meeting. If I ask people to trust me with their vote, they should know that I will be the same person in private as I am in public.
Responsibility
I believe in taking responsibility for my actions and for the people who are counting on me. Like anyone, I have made mistakes in my life. When I have fallen short, I have faced it directly, accepted the consequences, and learned from it, instead of making excuses. Whether it is my family, my patients, or my community, if I say I will be there, I take that commitment seriously.
Empathy and Respect
I try to put myself in other people’s shoes. When people take the time to talk with me, I want them to feel heard and taken seriously, even if we do not see every issue the same way. I may not agree with everyone, but I can respect them and listen to where they are coming from. That is how I lead and how I show up for the people I represent.
Perseverance
I do not walk away when things get hard. From the Navy to nursing to small business ownership, I have learned to keep grinding when the easy option is to quit. The same mindset has carried me through Ironman triathlons and ultra-endurance races, where you only finish by taking one more step when everything in you is tired. I believe good leadership means staying in the fight, working the problem, and not giving up on people or on communities
